The School of Business and Management of UCLan Cyprus in collaboration with the Centre for Entrepreneurial Development, Alliance & Research (CEDAR), successfully held the IdeaFest competition on the 10th of March 2020 at UCLan Cyprus’ premises with the participation of the university’s students, academics and external professionals. The competition opened with a welcome speech of Dr Loukas Glyptis, Deputy Chair of CEDAR and continued with the interesting presentations of Mr Floros Voniatis CEO and Chair of Council of UCLan Cyprus, Mr George Hadjivarnava co-founder and CTO of Foody, Mr Nicos Mesolongitis Founder and CEO of OjO Sunglasses and Mr Moysis Moyseos Operations Manager of Gravity Ventures Incubator. The guest speakers and judges of the competition presented their entrepreneurial journey through establishing their businesses but also the entrepreneurial growth experienced over the last years.
The presentations were followed by the poster competition where teams of students displayed posters of their business idea and pitched their idea in front of the judges. The Awards Ceremony took place right after the review of all business ideas.
The winning idea was the “TravelX” app which was presented by 4th-year hospitality students of UCLan Cyprus. The winning team received the prize of €1000 which was sponsored by CEDAR. Supriseley, the winning team decided to donate the prize to a charitable cause. The Chair, Deputy Chair and Director of CEDAR congratulates all participating students of UCLan Cyprus for displaying an enthusiastic entrepreneurial spirit and skills but also the winning team for their high ethical principles in regards to their kind donation to charity.
