Business Idea Competition 2016 – 2017

 

Centre of Entrepreneurial Development, Alliance and Research (CEDAR) organized for another year the Business Idea Competition 2016 – 2017, in association with UCLan Cyprus. CEDAR in the context of the initiative has organized entrepreneurial workshops throughout Cyprus for the support of young entrepreneurs.

The award ceremony of the competition took place in the 15th of June 2017 in the premises of KPMG Cyprus. The award ceremony has started with the presentation of iResTech Ltd., a Cypriot start-up company which is active in the field of assistive technologies. Following, aspiring entrepreneurial teams presented their business ideas to entrepreneurs, scholars, business angels, and supporters of venturing, including the Jury.

Top award, sponsored by KPMG, was won by “SHOPGUIN”, a business that wishes to change the way that small entrepreneurs conduct their business. The second award, sponsored by Gravity, was offered to “Macro-Care”, an innovative solution for the nutritional needs of milk-producing cows. The Social Enterprising award, sponsored by UCLan Cyprus MBA, was presented to ‘Roads and Keys’, a new platform that assists pianists who travel frequently.

“Entrepreneurship consists the main engine power of Europe in the current days. More precisely, after the financial crisis that erupted both internationally but also domestically, start-up and innovative businesses can become the gangway for growth and stability”, said Professor Panikkos Poutziouris leading the initiative.

 

The Competition was organized for another year in the framework of the earnest and continuous cooperation between KPMG Cyprus and Cedar. Additionally, equally important for the competition have been the organizations supporting the competition, namely: Cyprus University of Technology, University of Cyprus, Open University Cyprus, Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), Junior Chamber International (Cyprus), Youth Board of Cyprus/ KEPLI, CYBAN, CyRIC, StudentLife.com.cy, DisruptCyprus.com, INSPIRE, KOGEE-Cyprus Federation of Business and Professional Women, and UK-based EPISTEME and the UK Cyprus Enterprise Council. Award sponsors include KPMG, Gravity, and UCLan Cyprus.

 

CEDAR announced the continuation of the co-operation with all its partners for the current initiative. CEDAR’s  future plans are to further strengthen the competition so as to involve ideas from Cypriots of the diaspora.
